On Thursday, Asian Paints' shares continued their ascent, increasing by over 4% to reach Rs 2,897 in morning trading. This uptick is attributed to the company's impressive Q2 financial results, which have renewed investor enthusiasm. The stock had already experienced a nearly 6% jump on Wednesday following the earnings report.
Exceptional Quarterly Performance
For the July-September quarter, Asian Paints outperformed expectations across key performance indicators. Domestic decorative volumes rose by 10.9%, significantly surpassing analysts' forecasts of 4-5%. Net profit soared by 47% year-on-year, amounting to Rs 1,018 crore, partially attributed to a one-off loss encountered in the same quarter last year. Revenue increased by 6.4% to Rs 8,531 crore, while EBITDA grew by 21.3% to Rs 1,503 crore, with margins improving by over 200 basis points to 17.6%.
Market Valuation and Investor Sentiment
Following these gains, Asian Paints now boasts a market capitalization of approximately Rs 2.73 lakh crore. The stock is trading at a high price-to-earnings ratio nearing 76, indicative of its premium status within the consumer discretionary sector. The dividend yield is currently at 0.87%, providing a modest income stream for investors.
Analysts' Perspectives and Varied Sentiments
Post-results, brokerage firms have expressed a blend of optimism and caution. Jefferies maintained a 'Buy' rating, raising the target price to Rs 3,300, based on widespread volume growth and market share advancements. Similarly, HSBC upheld its 'Buy' recommendation with a target of Rs 3,050, citing margin surprises and a rebound in the core decorative segment. Conversely, Goldman Sachs issued a 'Sell' rating, setting a target of Rs 2,500, highlighting hurdles in sustaining momentum amid competitive pressures and mid-single-digit revenue growth forecasts for FY26.
Asian Paints' latest performance reflects its robustness within the competitive paints industry, driven by volume growth, strong branding, and a consistent market presence.
