In a revealing discussion about nepotism in Bollywood, actor Arshad Warsi shared his views on his children's ambitions to enter the acting world. He firmly believes that he won't use his contacts to help them secure roles. Warsi emphasized that the Hindi film industry rewards merit over connections.
Known for his roles in films such as Munna Bhai MBBS and Golmaal, Arshad expressed concern for his children's choices. “Both my son and daughter have a passion for acting,” he noted. “My son is currently assisting Siddharth Anand and has worked with Rajkumar Hirani. Honestly, I worry for them. It’s a challenging field with a dismal success rate—out of 150 crore people, only a select few can become actors.”
When questioned about leveraging his influence, Arshad was clear in his response: “No one can assist anyone here; you need to create your own path. I can’t call a director to fund my kids’ dreams. Why would they take a chance on my son? Even suggesting a meeting between my children and a filmmaker implies an expectation of a project, which I won’t endorse.”
He also pointed out that today's landscape is more cutthroat than when he began, stating, “It’s no longer like before, where a handful of people had the final say. The audience is now the ultimate judge. Even kids from film families must prove their worth. No one will back someone who doesn’t succeed.”
Warsi's son, Zeke, 21, is making strides as an assistant director, collaborating with established names, while his daughter, Zoe, 18, is still studying but has expressed interest in acting. Together with his wife, former VJ Maria Goretti, they are shielding their children from media's glare, allowing them to develop independently.
Arshad's commentary sheds light on the ongoing dialogue surrounding nepotism in the industry. While many insist that film families have distinct advantages, Warsi’s perspective suggests that success isn’t merely a product of connections.
Recently, Arshad appeared in Aryan Khan’s web series The Ba**ds of Bollywood*, showcasing a compelling portrayal of a crime lord that earned him praise from viewers and critics alike. This year, he is also set to feature in two major films: Jolly LLB 3 with Akshay Kumar, and Bhagawat Chapter One: Raakshas.
Despite his successful trajectory, Arshad emphasizes the need for hard work, stating, “Regardless of who you are, this industry will only embrace you if the audience connects with you. True talent, sincerity, and perseverance matter the most.”
