Lambton College Shooting: Suspect Arrested by Sarnia Police

Post by : Shweta

In a significant turn of events, Sarnia police have announced the arrest of a 24-year-old suspect linked to the tragic shooting incident at Lambton College, concluding a manhunt that spanned more than two weeks. Kyaw “Chin” Doe was apprehended on Monday through a coordinated effort involving the London Police Service.

Authorities identified a London residence where Doe was thought to be hiding. With assistance from the Emergency Response Unit, officers surrounded the location and prompted the suspect to surrender peacefully, resulting in his arrest.

Doe faces multiple serious charges, including second-degree murder and attempted murder, alongside illegal possession of a firearm. Currently in custody, he is set to attend a bail hearing as the judicial proceedings continue.

These charges stem from a shooting incident on April 10 that occurred at the Lions Den Pub on the campus, following an altercation between two groups. The incident resulted in the death of 20-year-old Dane Nisbet from Sarnia, while two others sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

In a statement, Police Chief Derek Davis expressed sympathies to Nisbet’s family and the wider community, noting the profound impact of this loss and suggesting that the arrest could provide a sense of relief as ongoing investigations proceed.

This case has already prompted several arrests, with three other individuals charged, including one facing second-degree murder and two accused of being accessories.

Authorities had been diligently searching for Doe, with a reward increasing to $50,000 to expedite his capture, demonstrating the serious nature of the case and the urgency in locating him.

While this arrest marks a pivotal moment in the investigation, police assert that further legal actions will influence the case’s progression. The ongoing developments continue to resonate with the local community, igniting discourse about safety in educational environments.
