Actor Arjun Kapoor candidly shared his experiences regarding mental health, the challenges of obesity, and dealing with sudden fame during his session at the FICCI Young Leaders Summit held in Mumbai. He highlighted the importance of normalizing therapy and viewing vulnerability as a symbol of strength.
Reflection on Challenging Times
Arjun indicated that the COVID-19 pandemic marked a pivotal moment in his life, leading him to confront the neglect of his mental and physical health over nearly a decade. “I began therapy after understanding that I hadn’t cared for myself for ten years,” he expressed.
Speaking about personal loss, Arjun opened up about the anguish of losing his mother, Mona Shourie Kapoor, in 2012, shortly before the launch of his debut film, Ishaqzaade. “I was grieving while simultaneously celebrating my newfound fame. I became an overnight star, but it was merely an escape from my pain,” he revealed.
His Fitness Journey
Arjun also reflected on his extensive journey to fitness, mentioning, “Losing 50 kilos took me four years; it was both a mental and physical challenge.” He acknowledged his late mother as his emotional support. “Losing your backbone at 25 changes everything; what can the world do after that?” he related.
Promoting Therapy and Embracing Vulnerability
Encouraging young individuals to prioritize their mental well-being, Arjun urged them to pursue therapy without reservation. “There’s nothing wrong with showing vulnerability. The strongest individuals are those who can recognize their feelings,” he emphasized. He described therapy as a “secure channel for expressing oneself that empowers individuals with clarity.”
In conclusion, Arjun implored the audience to “wear their emotions proudly” and view vulnerability as courage. “You can express emotions and retain power,” he affirmed.
Arjun Kapoor was last featured in Mere Husband Ki Biwi, which achieved a worldwide gross of approximately ₹6.75 crore. He is set to appear next in No Entry 2.
