Arab Audit Institutions Conclude Significant Assembly in Jeddah

Post by : Mara Rahim

The 15th General Assembly of the Arab Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ARABOSAI) concluded in Jeddah after five days of vital discussions hosted by Saudi Arabia through the General Court of Audit (GCA). Leaders from audit institutions across 22 Arab countries, along with regional and global experts, engaged in this significant event. Major decisions were approved aimed at reinforcing governance, boosting efficiency, and aiding the development of audit bodies in member nations. Notably, Saudi Arabia’s term as Chair of the Governing Board was reaffirmed, allowing it to host all ARABOSAI meetings until 2028. These initiatives are expected to elevate audit quality and enhance its positive ramifications throughout the region.

During the assembly, the 69th and 70th Governing Board meetings occurred, where members evaluated progress on ARABOSAI’s strategic objectives. Various committees presented their reports, leading to crucial decisions that back future projects and initiatives. A technical symposium took place alongside the meetings, featuring best practices in capacity building and sharing real-life examples from diverse Arab audit institutions. Discussions concentrated on refining training programs, enhancing professional skills, and ensuring robust performance within national audit bodies.

A key highlight was the presentation of the Peer Review Report by GCA President Dr. Hussam Alangari to the Chamber of Accounts of Azerbaijan, which examined the chamber’s adherence to international audit benchmarks, underscoring the ongoing commitment to transparency and quality auditing practices. Additionally, 20 auditors graduated from the Certified Arab Auditor Fellowship Program, an essential initiative by the GCA aimed at cultivating skilled professionals in auditing.

The assembly concluded with discussions to bolster collaboration among Arab Supreme Audit Institutions and broaden expertise exchange. Members highlighted the necessity of translating all recommendations into actionable measures that promote enhanced governance, transparency, and institutional performance across the Arab region. With renewed commitment from member states, ARABOSAI is poised to elevate auditing standards and improve the overall effectiveness of oversight in the years to come.
