Anupama Parameswaran Takes Legal Action Against Online Harassment

Post by : Mina Rahman

Actor Anupama Parameswaran has bravely addressed an incident of online harassment, highlighting her experience with malicious and misleading content being distributed by a 20-year-old individual. The star of Karthikeya 2 shared her ordeal on Instagram, confirming that she has lodged a formal cyber complaint and intends to take rigorous legal action against the offender.

In a poignant post on Instagram, Anupama recounted the serious nature of the cyberbullying she faced.

An Instagram profile was disseminating offensive and distorted content about me, my family, while also tagging friends and co-stars. The images were altered, and baseless allegations were made – witnessing such targeted harassment online was truly distressing,” she expressed.

The actor further revealed that the same entity had established several fake profiles to propagate malicious content and destructive comments on her posts. This relentless online harassment has compelled her to involve the Cyber Crime Police of Kerala.

Investigation Identifies a 20-Year-Old from Tamil Nadu.

As per Anupama's account, the investigation traced the fake accounts back to a 20-year-old girl residing in Tamil Nadu. While she confirmed that legal steps are in progress, she chose not to disclose the individual's identity due to her age.

Anupama emphasized that this situation extends beyond personal defamation to underscore a broader issue regarding irresponsible online behavior. She urged individuals to consider the serious ramifications of such actions.

“Possessing a smartphone or accessing social media platforms does not grant anyone the liberty to harass, defame, or spread negativity about others. Every online action leaves a mark, and accountability will ensue,” she cautioned.

Actor Warns of Stringent Legal Repercussions.

Anupama asserted that being a public figure does not exempt one from the dangers of harassment or defamation. She stressed that cyberbullying is a punishable act and individuals should be cognizant of the legal repercussions tied to their online conduct.

“Being an actor or a public personality does not strip away fundamental rights. Cyberbullying is a punishable act – and accountability is genuine,” she concluded in her message.

Her statement has garnered significant attention, resonating with fans and colleagues in the industry, many of whom praise her for standing up against digital abuse and promoting responsible online behavior.

A Rising Concern in the Entertainment Sector

Cases of online abuse aimed at celebrities are surging in recent years. Numerous actors, including prominent figures in South Indian cinema, have voiced their experiences with cyberbullying, trolling, and defamation campaigns targeting them.

Experts highlight that while social media improves connections between stars and their fans, it also facilitates anonymous harassment, resulting in considerable emotional and mental health consequences for these public personalities.

Anupama’s Future Endeavors

In spite of this troubling occurrence, Anupama remains focused on her flourishing film career. In 2025, she is set to appear in several films across multiple languages – such as Dragon and Bison Kaalamaadan in Tamil, Paradha and Kishkindhapuri in Telugu, and JSK: Janaki V v/s State of Kerala and The Pet Detective in Malayalam.

Upcoming, she will feature in her Tamil project titled Lockdown, reinforcing her status as one of the most dynamic and promising artists in South Indian cinema.

Anupama Parameswaran’s response to cyberbullying serves as a potent reminder that online harassment has tangible consequences. By pursuing legal action, she aspires to establish a benchmark for cyber safety and accountability that should be revered, irrespective of an individual's public image or status.
