Kumar Mangat Pathak, producer of the much-anticipated Drishyam 3, has confirmed that Jaideep Ahlawat will take over from Akshaye Khanna in the upcoming sequel. This shift occurs as Khanna has unexpectedly withdrawn from the project just ten days before filming was set to commence.
Pathak explained that Khanna had initially been secured after extensive negotiations and a formal contract that included an agreed payment. He was initially on board not to wear a wig, ensuring consistency with previous films. However, following advice from those close to him, Khanna changed his mind and insisted on donning a wig. Director Abhishek Pathak attempted to reason with him about the continuity concerns for the sequel, but Akshaye ultimately chose to depart from the film.
The producer discussed Khanna's career ups and downs, noting his return to prominence with roles in Section 375 (2019) and Drishyam 2 (2022). Pathak suggested that this resurgence may have impacted Khanna's professionalism on set, with reports of erratic behavior and overconfidence following his recent successes.
With Khanna's exit now confirmed, Jaideep Ahlawat has officially joined the Drishyam 3 ensemble. Pathak commended Jaideep, recognizing him not just as a gifted actor but also as a more reliable professional. He also highlighted his previous collaboration in Aakrosh (2010).
Pathak indicated that financial repercussions from Khanna's abrupt departure are being felt, leading to the issuance of a legal notice to the actor, with additional legal action anticipated.
Expressing astonishment over the wig situation, the producer emphasized how such demands could disrupt the character's established appearance.
With Jaideep Ahlawat now secured for the role, the creative team is optimistic that Drishyam 3 will maintain the legacy of the franchise.
