Envision a ring that attentively listens when you beckon, captures your thoughts, and replies in your chosen voice. Meet the Stream Ring, an innovative AI-powered accessory developed by startup Sandbar, co-founded by ex-CTRL Labs talents Mina Fahmi and Kirak Hong. After a two-year development period, the team has revealed a device that aims to facilitate a seamless, private, and personalized interaction with AI.
Despite its jewelry-like appearance, the Stream Ring conceals a powerful voice-activated computer. Worn on the index finger, it springs to life with a thumb press, recording your voice and transmitting it via Bluetooth to an accompanying smartphone app. Unlike conventional devices, it doesn’t store audio but translates your speech into text, retrievable later within the app.
Sandbar envisions the ring as “the mouse for voice,” striving for a level of interaction as natural as whispering. Users can pose questions, assemble shopping lists, or brainstorm ideas without invoking wake words or navigating screens. A gentle vibration signifies task completion, ensuring a quiet yet engaging experience. Beyond its AI capabilities, the ring is also a media controller: a tap plays or pauses, a double-tap skips tracks, and a swipe adjusts the volume.
A notable feature allows the AI to respond in the user's own voice. During the initial setup, the app records snippets to create a voice model using ElevenLabs technology, producing a response that sounds familiar yet unique.
Privacy is a core consideration; the Stream Ring records only upon user request, preventing any inadvertent audio capture. Health tracking is not included, emphasizing cognitive tasks, notes, and reminders. The battery lasts for a full day of active use and is supported by a compact charging dock. A desktop interface also enhances the mobile app for easier note management and sharing.
Designed for those keen on capturing thoughts, organizing their day, or ideating efficiently, Sandbar presents it as a “self-extension” rather than a typical assistant — a tool aimed at thought management instead of relentless surveillance.
The Stream Ring is currently available for preorder in the U.S., with a starting price of $249 for silver and $299 for gold. Preorders include a sizing kit and a three-month trial of Stream Pro for unlimited interactions. Post-trial, users can maintain access for a $10 monthly fee or opt for a limited free plan. Shipping is projected for summer 2026, heralding a potential new chapter in personal, voice-driven AI wearables.
