Ahaan Panday Discusses Privilege and the ‘Star Kid’ Tag Following Saiyaara’s Success

Post by : Mina Rahman

Ahaan Panday's entry into Bollywood has been nothing short of extraordinary. His debut film, Saiyaara, helmed by director Mohit Suri, has grossed approximately ₹580 crore, making it the highest-grossing romantic film in Indian cinema history. Both critics and the audience have acclaimed his performance, marking a promising start in his acting career. Nevertheless, conversations surrounding his privilege and lineage continue to provoke discussion.

Ahaan Panday addresses the ‘star kid’ notion

In a recent interview with GQ, Ahaan tackled the pervasive 'star kid' debate. He stated that he does not see himself as a part of that classification, asserting that his father, Aloke 'Chikki' Pandey, is not an actor.
"I can't reflect on that because Chikki Pandey isn't a star," he said. "However, speaking on behalf of my friends, everyone has their own battles."

Ahaan’s parents—Chikki Pandey, a businessman, and wellness expert Deanne Pandey—are not involved in the film industry. Yet, his father's long-standing friendship with Shah Rukh Khan and his uncle Chunky Panday's fame meant Ahaan was surrounded by film personalities during his upbringing.

Ahaan acknowledges his advantages

Reflecting on his upbringing, Ahaan expressed feeling close to the film world yet separate from it.
"I’ve always perceived my origin as being behind a barrier. I can extend my hand through it, but I can’t actually grasp what’s beyond it," he shared. "Being in proximity to the film industry has imparted significant knowledge, despite not being directly a part of it. That exposure constitutes my privilege."

Future prospects for Ahaan Panday

Following Saiyaara's monumental success as one of the leading Indian films of 2025, Ahaan is preparing for his next venture with Yash Raj Films. The forthcoming movie, an action-romance directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, will star Sharvari opposite him. Actor Aaishvary Thackeray, who also made his debut this year, is slated to play the villain. The film's title has yet to be revealed.
