Abu Dhabi Unveils Its First Women’s Mental Health Clinic

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

In a significant move for women's mental health, Abu Dhabi has inaugurated the Women’s Mental Health Clinic at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC). This pioneering facility, developed through a partnership between SAKINA under SEHA and SSMC, aims to provide culturally sensitive care for women of all ages.

Situated on Level 4 of Tower A at SSMC, the clinic operates from Monday to Friday between 8am and 4pm. It offers psychological services delivered solely by a female team of psychiatrists and psychologists, fostering a safe and comfortable experience for patients seeking assistance.

Emphasizing a holistic, patient-centric approach, the clinic addresses mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and stress. Clients can receive comprehensive psychological assessments, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), customized treatment plans, and ongoing follow-ups. In addition to individual therapy sessions, group therapy and peer-support initiatives are also available, enhancing social connection and emotional strength.

A primary focus of the clinic is the mental health of women during and after pregnancy. Routine assessments are integrated into antenatal care, allowing for the early recognition of at-risk individuals. Continued support post-delivery helps mothers handle emotional challenges often overlooked.

This initiative aligns with the UAE’s commitment to improving community health and ensuring that women can access comprehensive, respectful mental health care. By incorporating clinical and community-focused resources, the clinic aspires to establish long-lasting support systems for women facing mental health challenges.

With this new addition, Abu Dhabi reinforces its dedication to enhancing mental health accessibility, ensuring women in the capital have a dedicated space for their emotional, psychological, and social requirements.
