The Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo cycling event, organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, is scheduled for December 21, 2025, poised to be among the most significant sports occasions in the UAE's calendar. The 150-kilometer race will start at Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain and finish at the Sheikh Zayed Festival in Al Wathba, providing participants with a picturesque yet challenging route that showcases the emirate’s varied landscapes.
Offering a total prize purse of AED 2 million across 364 awards—44 more than the previous year—this year's event reflects its growing allure and commitment to recognizing a broader spectrum of competitors. The competition attracts a mix of amateur and professional cyclists, reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s emerging status as an international cycling destination.
With preparations in full swing, the race village has officially opened at the Sheikh Zayed Festival. Competitors have begun to pick up their race packs, technical gear, and review the race guide, which outlines essential details regarding the route, safety rules, checkpoints, and hydration stations to ensure everyone is race-ready.
A notable enhancement this year is the introduction of a specific Emirati category, aimed at fostering national engagement. The race will implement a staggered start time beginning at 7:00 a.m., tailored to age groups and skill levels, aiming for a well-structured racing experience for both individuals and teams.
Tissot, returning as the official timekeeper, emphasizes the event's professionalism. The Swiss manufacturer, with a legacy dating back to 1853, has partnered with the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), reinforcing the Gran Fondo's commitment to global standards in accuracy and performance.
His Excellency Talal Al Hashemi, Executive Director of the Events Sector at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, underscored the importance of this race in fulfilling the emirate’s long-term cycling objectives. He remarked that the new route, larger prize pool, and increased participation illustrate the event’s ambition to establish Abu Dhabi as a premier cycling destination.
Race Director Adnan Shaheen echoed these sentiments, expressing enthusiasm about the heightened anticipation among participants and the expected strong international involvement for the fourth iteration. He also noted the growing number of teams participating from various countries, marking the event's increasing global presence.
The Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo is part of the broader Bike Abu Dhabi initiative, which organizes cycling events year-round to promote wellness, tourism, and competitive sporting excellence.
Key sponsors this year include Tissot, Burjeel Medical City, Bin Hamoodah Auto, Belmez Sports, Mubadala, Tadweer Group, Al Ain Water, Marathon, and Wolfi’s. The event receives support from the Sheikh Zayed Festival, Department of Municipalities and Transport, Abu Dhabi Police, and Al Qattara.
With its revamped route, increased prize fund, and expanded participation, the 2025 edition aims to set new standards, enhancing Abu Dhabi’s position on the global cycling stage and motivating broader community involvement in the sport.
