Early Friday morning, a moderate earthquake registered 5.8 in magnitude shook the Tajikistan-Xinjiang border area, based on official seismic reports. The earthquake struck at approximately 2 a.m. local time, occurring at a depth of around 159 kilometers, as detailed by the Pakistan Meteorological Department. In contrast, the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre gauged the tremor at 5.3 magnitude, with a depth of 140 kilometers according to the Moment Magnitude scale.
The quake's tremors reached a wide region, affecting areas in Pakistan, including Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, along with parts of China and Afghanistan. The U.S. Geological Survey has verified the considerable range of the seismic activity. Thankfully, no immediate reports indicate injuries, fatalities, or damage to structures in the impacted regions.
Authorities are actively monitoring the situation and have taken necessary precautions to ensure public safety. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant yet composed, as emergency teams are prepared to assist if required. This event serves as a crucial reminder of the area's seismic risks, prompting officials to reiterate the importance of earthquake preparedness.
