Hyderabad Cardiologist Identifies 5 Morning Habits Risking Heart Health

Post by : Saif Nasser

In Hyderabad, a senior cardiologist has alerted individuals to the impact of certain everyday morning habits that could gradually harm heart health. Dr. Narasa Raju Kavalipati, the senior consultant and director of Interventional Cardiology at CARE Hospitals in Banjara Hills, emphasized that one’s morning routine can significantly affect cardiovascular wellness. He noted that many begin their day in haste, inadvertently exerting undue pressure on their heart. By making small adjustments, he claimed, individuals could achieve lasting benefits.

Dr. Kavalipati first advised against the common practice of skipping breakfast, which is prevalent among those who wake up late or are in a rush. He mentioned that prolonged fasting in the morning can lead to decreased blood sugar levels and increased stress hormones, forcing the heart to work harder. Over time, this could lead to issues like overeating and heightened stress on the cardiovascular system. A simple nutritious meal, such as fruit and nuts, can provide the body with a beneficial start.

Another detrimental habit he pointed out is checking one’s phone immediately upon waking. Many individuals instinctively reach for their smartphones as soon as they open their eyes; however, Dr. Kavalipati stressed that engaging with screens in the morning can elevate stress hormones in a matter of minutes, which could raise blood pressure and heart rate. He recommended allowing the mind at least ten minutes to acclimate with stretching or practicing deep breathing before reviewing notifications.

The physician also advised caution regarding the habit of consuming coffee or tea right after waking. While caffeine has its benefits, ingesting it on an empty stomach may trigger jitteriness and discomfort, especially for those with prior heart issues. He suggested having something to eat alongside coffee to avoid shocking the system.

Another practice the doctor noted was the tendency to spring up immediately once the alarm sounds. This abrupt movement can put unnecessary strain on the heart, as the body tends to be stiff from sleep. A few minutes of gentle movement or stretching can ease the transition from rest to wakefulness, thus benefiting heart function.

Lastly, he cautioned against dismissing morning fatigue. Regularly waking up feeling tired, despite a full night’s sleep, may indicate underlying health concerns. It could signal that the heart is exerting extra effort to maintain bodily functions, making it crucial to seek medical advice in these instances. Dr. Kavalipati reiterated that while occasional fatigue is common, constant tiredness warrants attention.

Sound heart health relies on daily choices. Adopting practices like eating a balanced breakfast, delaying phone engagement, avoiding caffeine on an empty stomach, moving slowly after waking, and addressing persistent fatigue can all mitigate excessive strain on the heart. Embracing healthier habits from the start of the day lays the groundwork for enduring cardiovascular health.
