2026 SAG Awards: Key Film and TV Nominations Unveiled Ahead of Oscars

Post by : Mina Rahman

The nominations for the 2026 Screen Actors Guild Awards, which underwent a name change in January 2025, have been revealed, highlighting films and television series expected to dominate the forthcoming Academy Awards. As winners are selected by SAG-AFTRA members, this ceremony serves as a crucial indicator for Oscar outcomes.

Leading the charge for Best Movie Cast are two major films, competing against the Shakespearean-inspired drama Hamnet, the sports-centric feature Marty Supreme, and the Gothic sci-fi piece Frankenstein.

In the acting categories, Leonardo DiCaprio secured a nomination for his portrayal of Bob in One Battle After Another. Michael B. Jordan garnered acclaim for his striking dual roles as twin siblings Smoke and Stack Moore in Sinners. Jessie Buckley also received recognition for her role as Agnes Hathaway in Hamnet, making these performers strong contenders this awards season.

For television, the dark comedy series The White Lotus is pitted against the medical drama The Pitt and the psychological thriller Severance. The culinary comedy The Bear is also in contention, alongside The Studio, Abbott Elementary, and Hacks. The critically acclaimed limited series Adolescence has received several nominations, reflecting its success.

The ceremony is set to take place on March 1, 2026, and will be streamed live on Netflix, granting audiences around the globe the opportunity to witness the announcement of winners.

In the previous year, the live nominees' announcement was halted due to severe wildfires in Los Angeles, with the nominees instead revealed online. During the announcement, Sean Astin, President of SAG-AFTRA, highlighted the anniversary of those wildfires and their effects on the community.

The SAG Awards remain a pivotal indicator for Oscar forecasting and honor outstanding achievements in film and television performances.
