An engaging two-day eco-tourism event unfolded at the Amu Darya State Nature Reserve in Turkmenistan, where youth gathered to foster environmental consciousness and advocate for sustainable practices.
Organized by the “Young Naturekeeper” public organization, this initiative is part of a project backed by the United Nations Development Programme and the Global Environment Facility, aimed at promoting conservation and responsible management of ecosystems within the Aral Sea region.
The initiative seeks to enhance young people's ecological awareness while instilling a sense of responsibility towards nature. During the event, participants explored the reserve, gaining valuable insights into the area's distinctive ecosystems.
Under the guidance of experts, attendees traversed coastal forest regions, where they were introduced to an array of rare bird species and diverse wildlife inhabiting the reserve. The event significantly enriched their understanding of biodiversity and environmental stewardship.
The program further emphasized experiential learning through showcasing contemporary methods of nature conservation and promoting eco-friendly living, including sustainable dietary practices.
Bahargul Kuliyeva, a volunteer with the organization, expressed that participating in the eco-tour greatly enhanced her understanding of nature preservation and motivated her commitment to environmental activism.
As the event came to a close, certificates of appreciation were awarded to active participants in acknowledgment of their dedication to raising environmental awareness.
The organizers highlighted how such initiatives are crucial in cultivating an ecological culture among the youth, propelling them toward active roles in future conservation projects aimed at safeguarding natural resources and ecosystems.
