Fahmi Calls on Malaysians to Embrace Rukun Negara Principles

Post by : Shakul

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has appealed to Malaysians across various backgrounds to adopt and implement the core principles of the Rukun Negara, reinforcing the message conveyed by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, during the official birthday celebrations at Istana Negara.

Fahmi emphasized that the King's remarks serve as a crucial reminder of the significance of national unity, mutual respect, and social cohesion. He highlighted the importance of remembering the events of the tragic May 13, 1969 racial riots as a guiding principle for the nation towards ongoing peace and stability.

The minister noted that political leaders bear a unique responsibility to uphold Rukun Negara values, avoiding any actions or statements that might foster division among Malaysians. Fahmi reiterated that maintaining unity is a shared commitment that requires effort from both leaders and the public.

During his remarks at the federal awards and honours investiture ceremony, Fahmi described the King’s address as timely, especially considering the current climate where public discourse can become polarized. He pointed out that respect for diversity is one of Malaysia's most significant assets.

Fahmi stated that understanding and applying Rukun Negara principles should transcend mere observance; these values need to manifest in everyday interactions, public behaviour, and national policymaking processes.

Earlier in the ceremony, Sultan Ibrahim reminded Malaysians that the essence of the Rukun Negara should underpin the nation. He also called upon political figures to be mindful when discussing sensitive topics, particularly during elections when public sentiments can run high.

The royal address underscored the critical need for responsible leadership and constructive communication to ensure Malaysia's continued peace, prosperity, and social unity. The event saw the attendance of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, senior government officials, and recipients of federal distinctions, emphasizing the importance of the King's message.
