Strengthening Ties: Vietnam and Japan's Growing Partnership

Post by : Shakul

In a notable meeting at the Government headquarters in Hanoi, Vietnam's Prime Minister Le Minh Hung hosted Nagasaki Kotaro, the Governor of Yamanashi Prefecture. The dialogue centered on enhancing bilateral ties in trade, agriculture, renewable energy, and investment as part of the expanding Vietnam-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Both leaders expressed contentment with the steady evolution of relations between Vietnam and Japan. They highlighted the robust economic collaboration and political trust growing between the nations, with Japan holding a key position as one of Vietnam's major economic allies in investment, tourism, labor cooperation, and official development assistance. The recent visit by Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae was also noted as a significant leap toward future cooperative ventures.

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung reaffirmed Vietnam's commitment to Japan as a trustworthy and strategic partner. He underlined the crucial role of local government collaboration and community exchanges in reinforcing bilateral bonding. The Prime Minister acknowledged ongoing partnerships between Yamanashi and Vietnamese provinces like Quang Tri and Tay Ninh, urging expanded cooperation moving forward.

Agriculture emerged prominently during discussions, with the Prime Minister appreciating Japan's backing for Vietnam's ambitious plan to cultivate one million hectares of high-quality, eco-friendly rice. He encouraged deeper agricultural ties through technology sharing, scientific collaboration, and workforce training. Leaders voiced hopes for expedited processes to enable wider access for Japanese grapes and Vietnamese pomelos in each other's markets.

Additionally, the dialogue extensively covered green energy and hydrogen initiatives. Yamanashi officials are collaborating with Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade to enhance cooperation in renewable energy endeavors. Prime Minister Hung urged Japanese enterprises to escalate investments in Vietnam, especially in clean energy, technology, and agriculture sectors.

Human resource development also played a crucial role in discussions. The Prime Minister proposed tightening cooperation in training skilled workers for various industries, including science, technology, and agriculture. Acknowledging Yamanashi’s support for the Vietnamese community there, he sought more assistance with labor regulations and social welfare policies for around 5,000 Vietnamese residing in the prefecture.

Governor Nagasaki Kotaro expressed Yamanashi's commitment to strengthening ties with Vietnam and underlined the prefecture's renowned fruit industry. He articulated hopes for better market access for Japanese grapes within Vietnam while also affirming continued support toward renewable energy initiatives. Both parties agreed that fostering local cooperation will be pivotal in enriching Vietnam-Japan relations in the coming years.
