Canadian tea retailer DAVIDsTEA has launched a significant recall on one of its herbal blends following the identification of an undeclared allergen. Health officials caution consumers against using this product, as it may contain almond, which is not highlighted on the packaging. This recall, announced by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), addresses fears that this unidentified component could trigger severe allergic responses in certain individuals.
The product in question is the “Organic Sneeze Ease Herbal Infusion,” primarily sold through online channels nationwide. Per the CFIA, the tea may contain almond, a potential allergen that poses risks for those with sensitivities or allergies. Health authorities indicated that the presence of this undeclared ingredient could lead unsuspecting consumers to ingest the product, believing it harmless.
The implicated item is packaged in a 50-gram loose-leaf format, with a UPC number of 101202100502 and code 000CHA831216. The CFIA has categorized this incident as a serious food recall and has urged consumers to cease any use of the product. Authorities recommend that customers refrain from consuming, selling, serving, or distributing the tea, suggesting they dispose of it or return it where it was purchased.
Health officials advise that allergic responses stemming from tree nuts can vary from mild reactions to severe emergencies. Individuals with almond allergies may suffer from symptoms like swelling, difficulty breathing, skin rashes, or even severe anaphylaxis following consumption. Given these dangers, Canadian food labeling laws require that common allergens be clearly stated for consumer safety.
The CFIA has indicated that an ongoing investigation into the food safety of this tea is underway. This inquiry could possibly lead to further recalls if more products are identified as being at risk. Although no illnesses have been officially linked to the recall at this time, authorities are vigilantly monitoring the developing situation.
The recall has captured online attention, with numerous consumers voicing their concerns regarding food labeling and allergen safety. Discussions on platforms like Reddit quickly pinpointed almond as the problematic undeclared ingredient and highlighted the critical need for precise labeling, especially for those with severe allergies.
