On Friday, the Light Rail Transit services for Malaysia’s Ampang and Sri Petaling lines are running on a modified schedule due to repair work following a derailment incident near Chan Sow Lin Station. Although there has been some disruption, train operations are ongoing, and stations have remained open, with adjustments aimed at reducing commuter inconvenience.
A recent survey at various stations along the affected lines indicated smooth operations, with ticket counters operating normally and staff actively supporting passengers. Rapid Rail personnel were visible at platforms to help guide travelers through the temporary changes.
At certain stations, such as Cheras, only one platform has been allocated for trains in both directions. Passengers heading toward Putra Heights and Sentul Timur must adhere to updated boarding guidelines communicated via station announcements. This arrangement facilitates ongoing train services while repair teams address the damaged track section.
Numerous commuters have expressed their appreciation for the railway staff’s assistance during this period of disruption. Passengers reported that clear communication and the presence of staff significantly alleviated confusion stemming from the revised boarding procedures. Most individuals managed to continue their travels with only slight delays.
Nonetheless, some passengers have chosen alternative transportation options after facing route changes. Several opted for e-hailing services from connecting stations, seeking convenience and avoiding potential delays. Many, however, recognized the substantial efforts made by transit operators to sustain service continuity.
The recent disruption was prompted by the derailment of an Ampang/Sri Petaling Line train near Chan Sow Lin Station on Thursday morning. Authorities have confirmed the derailment was caused by a malfunctioning track switching mechanism, affecting train movement and necessitating immediate repairs.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke has stated that restoration efforts are ongoing and that full operational capacity of the affected track is expected by next Wednesday at the latest. He reassured passengers that all stations along the transit route would remain open throughout the repair duration, with modified train schedules ensuring continued services while safety improvements are carried out.
