Post by : Mina Rahman

A devastating explosion rocked a university cafeteria in Bukit Damansara today, resulting in one fatality and injuring nine individuals.

The incident occurred in the air-conditioner compressor area on the cafeteria’s Level 4 during routine maintenance, inflicting extensive damage across nearly a third of the floor area. Fortunately, there was no subsequent fire following the blast.

Emergency personnel responded promptly after a distress signal was received at approximately 11:51 a.m. Multiple firefighting teams, including a Hazmat unit, were dispatched to investigate potential gas leaks. Officials later confirmed the scene posed no danger from hazardous substances, maintaining that the situation was under control.

Among those injured were four students, two canteen staff members, an in-house technician, and two contractors. Tragically, a 24-year-old contractor who sustained severe injuries passed away at Hospital Kuala Lumpur.

Authorities are conducting ongoing investigations to ascertain the precise cause of the explosion, placing particular emphasis on the maintenance protocols in the compressor room at the time of the incident.
