The United Nations has raised alarms regarding the intensifying violence in Lebanon, particularly after Israeli shelling struck southern Beirut on Thursday. This escalation has led the UN to caution that ongoing tensions could further deteriorate the situation across the region.
Speaking on behalf of the UN Secretary-General, a spokesperson urged all involved parties to adhere to the ceasefire and refrain from further hostilities. Emphasizing the critical nature of stability, the spokesperson underscored the need to prevent an escalation.
The UN also condemned any attacks that target civilians and infrastructure, calling upon all sides of the conflict to act with responsibility and comply with international humanitarian law.
The recent hostilities in southern Beirut have heightened fears of broader conflict as global leaders persist in advocating for restraint and peaceful negotiations.
