The United Nations has highlighted the urgent need to restore peace and security in Sudan, a country torn apart by a devastating war that has left millions of people in danger.

During a press briefing at UN Headquarters, the spokesperson stressed the importance of a recent joint statement made by the Quartet—a group that includes the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the United States of America. This group has joined forces to find a way to end the ongoing conflict in Sudan.

The spokesperson explained that the United Nations fully supports the Quartet’s initiative and is ready to work constructively with any plan that helps stop the fighting and bring relief to the people of Sudan.

No Military Solution for Sudan’s Crisis

The UN made it very clear that the conflict in Sudan cannot be solved through weapons and battles. Instead, peace can only come through dialogue, compromise, and political agreements. The organization called on all sides in Sudan to act responsibly and stop targeting civilians.

The spokesperson further emphasized three urgent steps that need immediate attention:

1. Humanitarian Truce: There must be an immediate stop to fighting so that aid workers can deliver food, medicine, and shelter to people in need.

2. Safe Humanitarian Access: Aid must be allowed to reach communities without delays or obstacles.

3. Permanent Ceasefire: A long-term peace deal should be agreed upon, leading to a stable political transition that allows Sudan to rebuild.

Call to the International Community

The United Nations also urged all countries that are directly or indirectly involved in Sudan’s situation to use their influence to push for peace. The spokesperson called on governments worldwide to encourage dialogue and keep pressure on the warring sides to lay down their arms.

The war in Sudan has already displaced millions of people, destroyed homes, collapsed the economy, and left families struggling for survival. Without a serious commitment from both Sudanese leaders and the international community, the suffering will only deepen.

Humanitarian Situation in Sudan

The conflict has created one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. Cities are under attack, infrastructure has been damaged, and essential services such as hospitals and schools are collapsing. Families are forced to flee from their homes, often ending up in overcrowded camps with little access to clean water or proper food.

Children in particular are at great risk. Many have been separated from their families, while others are facing hunger and lack of education. The UN believes that protecting civilians, especially women and children, must be the top priority for all sides.

The Path to a Political Transition

The United Nations is also looking at the bigger picture. Beyond a ceasefire, the goal is to build a credible political process that includes all parts of Sudanese society. This process should allow for fair representation, protection of human rights, and a clear path toward democratic governance.

The international community, especially the Quartet, will play an important role in guiding Sudan toward this transition. However, the final responsibility lies with the Sudanese leaders and their willingness to choose peace over war.

Why Sudan Matters Globally

The crisis in Sudan is not only a tragedy for the Sudanese people but also a matter of global concern. Instability in Sudan could spread to neighboring countries, affecting regional peace and economic stability. Sudan’s location is strategic, connecting the Middle East and Africa, making peace in the country crucial for wider regional security.

The United Nations’ message is clear: there is no military solution in Sudan. The future of the country depends on a strong ceasefire, humanitarian access, and a real political transition. The Quartet’s involvement is a positive sign, but lasting peace will require consistent international support and honest dialogue between Sudanese groups.

Until that happens, millions of people will remain trapped in fear, hunger, and uncertainty.
