Severe Thunderstorm Warning Across Malaysian States

Post by : Shakul

In a recent announcement, MetMalaysia has issued a critical warning regarding thunderstorms that will impact numerous regions in Malaysia, notably the Klang Valley. This advisory brings attention to the potential for significant rainfall, gusty winds, and possible disruptions throughout various areas.

The warning remains effective until 6 PM on May 2, 2026. Meteorological forecasts indicate that rainfall could surpass 20 millimeters per hour in certain locations, posing risks of localized flooding and scant visibility.

The Klang Valley, incorporating Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, and Putrajaya, is expected to bear the brunt of the storm conditions. Residents in these locales are urged to exercise caution and limit their outdoor activities during periods of severe weather.

Additionally, various states in Peninsular Malaysia, including Perlis, Kedah, Penang, and Perak, are also under a weather alert. Thunderstorms are predicted to form rapidly and may persist for over an hour in some regions.

In the eastern part of the country, states such as Kelantan, Terengganu, and Pahang are witnessing unstable weather. The southern areas, including Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, and Johor, are expected to experience similar conditions marked by torrential rain and violent winds.

In East Malaysia, Sarawak and Sabah have also been included in the warning, with regions like Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu, Kota Kinabalu, and Tuaran bracing for possible thunderstorms during this advisory.

Labuan is not exempt from these weather challenges, with conditions anticipated to remain unpredictable throughout the day. Authorities have urged the public to stay informed through official updates and to refrain from unnecessary travel amidst severe weather conditions.

MetMalaysia clarified that thunderstorm warnings are typically short-term advisories with validity for up to six hours, issued when conditions signal the likelihood of heavy rainfall and strong wind gusts.

This overall alert underscores the importance of public awareness and safety as weather conditions evolve. Individuals are encouraged to remain vigilant, adhere to safety protocols, and take necessary precautions to mitigate potential hazards.
