The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has officially welcomed the new peace agreement aimed at ending the Gaza war, calling it a vital step towards lasting stability and justice in the region. The agreement, part of the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace proposal, seeks to bring an end to months of devastating conflict between Israel and Hamas.
In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the accord represents an “important step toward achieving a comprehensive and just peace that guarantees the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.” The ministry also expressed appreciation for the mediation efforts led by Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, noting their critical role in facilitating dialogue between the two sides.
The UAE urged both parties to strictly adhere to the terms of the agreement, maintain self-restraint, and work sincerely towards resuming a comprehensive political process that leads to the long-awaited two-state solution — a peaceful coexistence between Israel and Palestine.
Reaffirming its consistent stance, the UAE emphasized its full support for all regional and international efforts to end the ongoing violence in Gaza. The ministry also highlighted the urgent need for immediate and unhindered humanitarian aid to reach Palestinian civilians, many of whom continue to face extreme hardships due to the conflict.
According to Egypt’s state media, the ceasefire officially came into effect at noon local time (0900 GMT) after both parties signed the deal in the Egyptian resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office stated that the ceasefire would only be implemented once it received approval from the Israeli cabinet, which was set to meet later in the evening.
Residents in Gaza reported multiple airstrikes in Gaza City just as the ceasefire was expected to be finalized, underscoring the fragile nature of the truce.
Under the terms of the agreement, both sides have agreed to halt all fighting immediately. Israel will begin a partial withdrawal of its forces from Gaza, while Hamas is expected to release hostages taken during the initial stages of the war. In return, Israel will release several Palestinian prisoners as part of a prisoner exchange deal.
The UAE has reiterated its commitment to peace and regional stability, stressing that diplomatic dialogue and humanitarian cooperation are the only paths forward. The Gulf nation hopes this agreement will not only end the violence but also lay the foundation for a permanent and fair resolution that ensures peace, dignity, and security for both Palestinians and Israelis.
