Dubai Launches Global Ventures Under Prototypes for Humanity Initiative

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

Dubai has officially launched three innovative university ventures into pilot projects and commercialization routes in the UAE through the initiative ‘Dubai Future Solutions – Prototypes for Humanity’, recognized as one of the largest global programs aimed at fostering university innovation and entrepreneurship.

This initiative is organized annually in Dubai under the patronage of Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and managed by Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, in collaboration with the Dubai Future Foundation, Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Authority, Art Dubai, and the Hussain Sajwani – DAMAC Foundation.

Each year, the program selects 100 startups from thousands of university submissions worldwide, facilitating their transition from research stages to real-world application.

Three Global Ventures Making Their Mark in the UAE

In its inaugural cohort, the program is elevating three ventures from Switzerland, the US, and Egypt into pilot phases and expansion opportunities within the UAE:

Oxara (Switzerland) develops sustainable building materials by transforming mineral and construction waste into low-CO₂ products. The company has completed a pilot with a prominent UAE concrete manufacturer and aims for large-scale deployment in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

P-Vita (Egypt) specializes in agricultural biotechnology using AI to produce natural fertilizers and essential raw materials for the agriculture, food, and pharmaceutical sectors. The firm already supports over 4,800 smallholder farmers and is enhancing trials and agricultural models in the UAE.

Virufy (USA/Japan-led research team) is creating an AI health screening tool that identifies respiratory issues through cough sound analysis. The company is in partnership with Dubai Health, currently enrolling nearly 200 patients in its pilot clinical study.

Visionary Leadership

Khalfan Belhoul remarked that this program lays out a structured pathway for transforming groundbreaking research into practical applications, bolstered by Dubai's robust innovation ecosystem.

Arif Amiri emphasized that this initiative cements Dubai's status as a global innovation hub, fostering connections among capital, institutions, and talent.

Bridging Research and Market Opportunities

Program leaders stated the initiative provides necessary funding, business acumen, industry partnerships, and hands-on support, enabling academic entrepreneurs to convert their research into viable commercial endeavors. The aim is to diminish risks and hasten real-world integration.

Tadeu Baldani Caravieri noted that the program effectively bridges the divide between scientific innovation and commercial viability through organized support and collaborations.

Expanding Horizons and New Startups

The upcoming program cycle will showcase new ventures from leading global universities, including Harvard University, Imperial College London, Petronas Technology University, and Duke University. Selected projects are already in advanced negotiations with UAE-based partners for future rollout beginning in 2026.

Open Applications

Applications are now open for the upcoming ‘Dubai Future Solutions – Prototypes for Humanity’ summit, encouraging students, graduates, and researchers from around the globe to submit their innovations for the annual showcase in Dubai and potential admission into future venture programs.
