The United Arab Emirates, through the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), participated in the 27th Committee of Undersecretaries of Transport Ministries meeting for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member nations. Hosted by Kuwait, the gathering included delegations from all GCC countries and officials from the GCC Secretariat General.
Leading the UAE team was Sheikh Nasser Al Qasimi, Assistant Undersecretary for Infrastructure Regulation at MoEI. He emphasized the UAE’s dedication to advancing GCC efforts in enhancing connectivity within the transport sector. Sheikh Al Qasimi pointed out that improved infrastructure is crucial for sustainable growth and fostering economic and social unity among member nations.
The GCC transport sector is witnessing a significant transformation, propelled by ambitious national strategies and initiatives. The discussion highlighted major projects such as the Gulf railway network and innovative smart transport systems, aimed at enhancing efficiency, lowering emissions, and aligning with the broader sustainable development objectives of the region.
With 25 agenda items, the meeting addressed previous decisions, reports from various technical committees overseeing land, maritime, and air transport, as well as progress on establishing the Gulf Centre for Traffic Studies. There was also deliberation on the operational plan for 2026 and strategies for enhancing international collaboration with regional and global entities.
There was a strong emphasis on unifying policies and legislation across the GCC transport domain. Participants acknowledged that the exchange of expertise and technical know-how among member nations is essential for positioning the GCC as a premier hub for transport and logistics services globally.
The UAE delegation reaffirmed its dedication to implementing advanced sustainable transport solutions. Sheikh Al Qasimi discussed initiatives for upgrading infrastructure, integrating smart technologies, and ensuring that transport systems contribute positively to economic growth, environmental sustainability, and regional prosperity.
The meeting underscored the significance of regional cooperation to facilitate seamless connectivity across the GCC. The UAE and other member states reaffirmed their commitment to joint projects, sharing best practices, and fostering a cohesive transport and logistics network benefiting all Gulf nations.
The GCC aims to further integrate transport policies, enhance infrastructure developments, and adopt technological advancements. The UAE continues to play a vital role in spearheading these initiatives, ensuring the region’s competitive position in global logistics and transport.
