The Family Development Foundation (FDF) and the Abu Dhabi Housing Authority (ADHA), working closely with the Department of Community Development – Abu Dhabi (DCD), have introduced a helpful new service. It allows people who take care of their elderly parents to extend their housing loan repayment period by up to five years.
This new option is part of the Barakatna initiative. It was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE, to support families and help them take better care of their elderly members.
The goal of this service is to reduce the monthly loan payments for caregivers, giving them more financial freedom. This way, children can care for their aging parents at home without worrying too much about money.
His Excellency Abdulrahman Al Baloushi from the Family Development Foundation said that this plan brings different government departments together to help families and make life better for older people. He also said that by supporting caregivers, the service encourages strong family values and the deep respect Emiratis have for their elders.
This initiative helps families play a bigger role in taking care of older members. It teaches everyone that caring for elders is a shared duty. Giving caregivers the tools and time they need also shows that senior citizens are valuable members of the family and society.
Mohammed Abdulrahman Al Marzouqi from the Abu Dhabi Housing Authority explained that the main rule for this program is that the person applying must be the main caregiver for a parent who is 60 years old or older. They must also have an existing loan from ADHA, such as a loan for building or buying a house.
To apply, the caregiver needs to use the TAMM platform and upload all the necessary documents. The Family Development Foundation will check if the person qualifies, and then ADHA will approve and update the repayment schedule within one week.
This step is part of Abu Dhabi’s larger mission to improve the lives of senior citizens. It ensures stable housing and gives helpful support to those who care for their parents, helping them meet both their family and social responsibilities with less stress.
