The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Parliamentary Division took part in the 11th BRICS Parliamentary Forum held in Brasília, the capital of Brazil. This important event brought together representatives from BRICS countries—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—to talk about how to improve global economic development.
Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, who is the Chairman of the Committee on Defence, Interior, and Foreign Affairs in the UAE Federal National Council (FNC), led the UAE team. He spoke during a session called “BRICS Parliamentary Action in Search of New Paths for Economic Development.” He was joined by Sara Mohammad Falaknaz, another member of the FNC.
In his speech, Dr. Al Nuaimi said that finding new ways to grow the economy during tough times around the world is very important. He pointed out that there are two main things BRICS countries should focus on:
Stay true to the group’s founding goals and values – These are important for keeping the group strong and working together.
Put people first – Work on real partnerships and creative ideas that help everyone grow in a fair and equal way.
Dr. Al Nuaimi talked about how the world has changed a lot since World War II. He explained that today, some powerful countries use money and trade rules to benefit only themselves. This can harm fairness and teamwork among nations.
Because of this, he said it's very important for BRICS countries to stay united and support things like fair trade, working together, and helping everyone succeed—not just a few.
He also mentioned that parliaments (like the FNC) don’t just make laws and supervise the government. They also need to make sure that economic plans really help people’s lives through useful and caring programs.
Dr. Al Nuaimi said that the goal of economic development should not just be about making money. Instead, it should be about building a kind and fair economy. One that supports poor communities, makes life better for everyone, and ensures that no country or group—whether in Africa, Asia, or Latin America—is forgotten.
He ended by saying that for the future to be better and fair for all, BRICS countries must build trust, stick to their original purpose, and create strong programs that truly make a difference in people’s lives.
