The UAE National Identity Committee, led by Sheikha Mariam bint Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, convened for its inaugural meeting to evaluate pivotal initiatives tied to the UAE's National Identity Strategy.
At the session, the committee unveiled the National Register of Modern Heritage and assessed the National Identity Values Narrative Guide. These efforts are aimed at fortifying Emirati identity, safeguarding national heritage, and fostering shared societal values.
The discussion included the application of vital elements of the National Identity Strategy, approved last year, which encompasses 25 principal sectors like education, media, culture, economy, and community. The goal is to elevate the role of national identity across various development realms in the UAE.
Sheikha Mariam emphasized that national identity transcends mere conceptions, manifesting daily through language, traditions, family bonds, and societal contributions. She underscored the significant influence of family and education, alongside the values espoused by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, on the formation of Emirati identity.
She reiterated the importance of transforming the National Identity Strategy into actionable priorities with measurable outcomes. The approach seeks a harmonious blend of tradition with innovation, while balancing diversity against unity and ambition with humility.
A noteworthy announcement was the initiation of the National Register of Modern Heritage, aimed at cataloging and conserving culturally valuable structures across the UAE, particularly those established post-1960s. This initiative is crucial for preserving national memory for future generations.
Additionally, the committee reviewed the National Identity Values Narrative Guide, designed as a cohesive framework to articulate Emirati identity and values. This guide will assist governmental bodies in formulating policies and programs aligned with national identity objectives.
The discussion also involved advancements in the National Identity Index, a mechanism to gauge public awareness, pride, and engagement with national identity, vital for evaluating the effectiveness of future endeavors aimed at enhancing social unity.
An interactive exhibition accompanied the meeting, spotlighting the UAE’s National Identity Strategy through four pivotal themes: Emirati identity values, strategic priorities, cultural characteristics, and the National Register of Modern Heritage.
Several high-ranking UAE officials, including Sheikh Salem bin Khalid Al Qasimi, Dr. Sultan bin Saif Al Neyadi, and Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, were present at the meeting.
The National Identity Committee is tasked with overseeing the execution of the UAE’s National Identity Strategy, unifying efforts across various sectors, and ensuring that initiatives effectively cultivate national belonging while preserving Emirati heritage.
