The UAE is positioning itself as a frontrunner in food security, merging innovation, investment, and infrastructure to build a robust and sustainable food system. Nationwide projects are revolutionizing agriculture, manufacturing, and supply chain logistics, elevating the country as a viable hub in the regional and global food market.
In Abu Dhabi, the food and beverage sector is on an impressive growth trajectory. The Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry reports a surge to 24,594 active memberships, with small and medium enterprises and start-ups contributing to a remarkable 42.2% rise in memberships in the first half of 2025 compared to last year.
Meanwhile, Dubai is establishing itself as a global food trade nexus, aided by its world-class infrastructure and pivotal position linking various continents. The emirate’s seamless logistics network improves supply chain operations, with Jebel Ali Port, the Middle East's largest, managing about 73% of the nation's food and beverage trade and connecting to over 150 ports globally.
Support from national financial bodies underscores this progress. In 2023, Emirates Development Bank introduced the UAE’s first AgriTech financing program, dedicating AED100 million to innovative food security projects. This initiative empowers start-ups to create advanced agricultural technologies and bolsters the nation’s self-sufficiency ambitions.
The UAE’s strategy merges public-private synergy with forward-thinking planning. Initiatives like the Food Cluster Economy, overseen by the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, establish comprehensive frameworks linking agriculture, manufacturing, supply chains, and retail, promoting innovation and enhancing investment and capacity development.
Another significant project is the Food Tech Valley in Dubai, which aims to create an integrated platform for the agri-tech and food sectors. This initiative connects local and international entities along the value chain, offering essential infrastructure, research resources, and strategic alliances to expedite sustainable growth. In recent years, local products have bolstered their presence in UAE markets, showcasing the success of policies geared towards enhancing domestic production and competitiveness.
These efforts reflect more than economic strategies; they embody a national vision grounded in resilience, innovation, and global leadership in the food sector. By marrying technology with strategic investments and collaborative endeavors, the UAE continues to set the standard for food security and sustainable progress in the region.
