Turkmenistan Set to Elevate Global Tourism Aspirations

Post by : Shakul

The inaugural international exhibition and conference, “Turkmentravel – 2026”, kicked off in Ashgabat on April 15, 2026, convening policymakers, industry pioneers, private sector entrepreneurs, and global experts to explore the future trajectory of tourism within the region.

A notable moment at the event was the talk by Cordula Wollmut, the Regional Director for Europe at the United Nations World Tourism Organization. She pointed out that Central Asia is swiftly becoming one of the most promising tourist destinations around the globe.

Wollmut indicated that the region’s stability, safety, and rich cultural tapestry are key elements fueling its growing appeal to international travelers and investors alike.

She underscored Turkmenistan’s crucial role in establishing a strong and identifiable tourism brand for Central Asia, which could elevate the region's global standing significantly.

The UN tourism organization reaffirmed its dedication to bolstering collaboration with Turkmenistan by aiding the adoption of modern technologies in tourism services, fostering sustainable infrastructure growth, and promoting foreign investments.

Wollmut emphasized that the essential conditions exist for Turkmenistan to secure its position as a competitive contender in the global tourism arena, as long as developments are pursued in a structured and innovative fashion.

She also mentioned that tapping into the country’s tourism potential could lead to new economic avenues, enhance job creation, and play a vital role in establishing a more sustainable and inclusive global tourism ecosystem.

The conference is poised to lay the groundwork for future collaborations, partnerships, and strategic initiatives focused on accelerating tourism advancement in Turkmenistan and throughout Central Asia.
