Turkmenistan Advocates for Global Governance Innovation

Post by : Shakul

At a high-level gathering of the Group of Friends of Global Governance in New York, Turkmenistan reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing international collaboration and revamping global governance structures. This meeting, themed “Reforming and Improving Global Governance, Working Together to Address Global Challenges,” saw officials from various nations converge to explore solutions to pressing international issues.

Leading the Turkmen delegation, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov articulated the necessity of unified action and robust multilateral institutions to tackle today's global dilemmas. He expressed gratitude to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi for the invitation and reiterated Turkmenistan’s endorsement of the Global Governance Initiative, championed by President Xi Jinping during the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit.

In Meredov's view, engagement in the Group of Friends of Global Governance is a vital platform for fostering constructive dialogue under the United Nations banner. He underscored that global governance frameworks must adapt to effectively address geopolitical tensions, economic volatility, technological advancements, and new security threats affecting nations across the globe.

Among the significant proposals delineated by Turkmenistan was one emphasizing preventive governance. They suggested the creation of a Multilateral Platform for Preventive Governance aimed at recognizing and mitigating potential conflicts and crises before they escalate. Officials highlighted the importance of preventive diplomacy and early intervention strategies for sustaining international peace and stability in an increasingly intricate global landscape.

Another proposal shed light on the strengthening of international law, as Turkmenistan advocates for the designation of 2028 as the International Year of Law under the United Nations. This initiative aspires to stimulate global dialogue regarding legal frameworks, international accords, and institutional cooperation during times of rapid transformation and instability.

The third initiative revolved around digital governance and the integrity of information. Turkmenistan called for the establishment of universal principles to safeguard data accuracy and transparency while promoting international mechanisms for information verification in policymaking. The government argued that dependable data is crucial for effective governance and informed decision-making throughout various sectors.

In conclusion, Turkmenistan stressed the interconnection of preventive governance, adherence to international law, reliable data systems, and inclusive initiative execution as a cohesive framework for responsible global collaboration. Officials noted that the success of international governance depends on its capacity to provide tangible solutions, foster trust among nations, and address real-world challenges through dialogue and partnership.
