U.S. President Donald Trump is set to meet leaders and officials from several Muslim-majority countries to discuss the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, September 23, 2025, will include representatives from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, Indonesia, and Pakistan. The main focus of the discussions will be the situation in Gaza, which has been under heavy attacks from Israel, a key ally of the United States.
The White House confirmed that President Trump will propose a plan for peace and the future governance of Gaza after the war. He is expected to talk about ending the fighting, releasing hostages, and helping Israel withdraw its forces from the region. According to reports, the United States hopes that Arab and Muslim nations will provide military support to help Israel leave Gaza safely and also help fund the rebuilding and recovery of the territory.
The meeting comes at a critical time. Just a day before, a large gathering of world leaders at the United Nations officially recognized a Palestinian state. This is considered a historic diplomatic move nearly two years into the Gaza war, but Israel and the United States strongly oppose it. While the international community stresses a two-state solution as the path to peace, Israel argues that recognizing a Palestinian state rewards extremism.
The conflict in Gaza has been devastating. Since October 2023, Israeli strikes have killed tens of thousands of Palestinians and displaced nearly the entire population of Gaza. Food shortages have created a severe humanitarian crisis. Many human rights experts, scholars, and UN investigators say that the actions in Gaza could amount to genocide. Israel defends its attacks as a response to an October 2023 Hamas assault that killed over 1,200 people and left more than 250 hostages. In the course of the war, Israel has also carried out attacks in Iran, Lebanon, Yemen, Syria, and Qatar.
President Trump had promised to end the war quickly, but a lasting solution has not been achieved even eight months into his term. Early in his presidency, a temporary two-month ceasefire between Israel and Hamas helped calm tensions. However, the ceasefire ended in March when Israeli strikes killed 400 Palestinians. Recently, pictures showing Palestinian children and families starving have caused worldwide outrage against the ongoing Israeli assault.
Earlier this year, President Trump proposed a controversial plan to take control of Gaza under U.S. supervision and permanently relocate Palestinians. Experts and the United Nations criticized this idea, calling it “ethnic cleansing,” as forcibly moving people is illegal under international law. Trump described his plan as a way to redevelop the area, but it sparked strong criticism from global human rights groups.
In addition to the Gaza conflict, the U.S. president will also address the United Nations General Assembly on the same day. This is part of broader diplomatic efforts to secure peace in the Middle East and ensure long-term stability in Gaza. Analysts say the upcoming meetings with Muslim-majority countries could shape the future of Gaza, influence post-war governance, and determine the region’s recovery.
The world is watching closely to see if President Trump can bring together international partners to address one of the most severe humanitarian crises of recent years. The outcomes of these talks may determine not only the future of Gaza but also the broader dynamics between Israel, Palestine, and neighboring countries in the Middle East.
