Major Train Collision Near Pezinok, Injuries Reported

Post by : Raina Nasser

A significant collision involving two passenger trains occurred on Sunday between Pezinok and Bratislava in Slovakia, resulting in numerous injuries and a major disruption of rail services. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of this serious incident.

The collision occurred shortly after train REX 1814, which was en route from Nitra to Bratislava, departed from Pezinok station and collided head-on with train Ex 620. The severe impact led to several carriages derailing, with nearly 30 passengers injured, some requiring immediate hospitalization. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported so far.

Rail operations along the route have been suspended, with the state-operated carrier ZSSK warning passengers of potential delays and service interruptions as engineers and emergency personnel evaluate the situation. “Emergency services are currently on the scene, and injuries have been reported,” stated ZSSK, reiterating that the safety of passengers and crew is their utmost priority.

Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok is en route to oversee rescue efforts and investigations. ZSSK is conducting a thorough inquiry in collaboration with national railway and transport authorities to ascertain the facts surrounding the collision.

Travelers are advised to steer clear of the affected area and explore alternative transportation options. Updates regarding train operations and investigation results will follow as emergency teams work diligently to restore safety and infrastructure.

This incident highlights persistent concerns regarding rail safety in Slovakia, prompting swift action from transportation and emergency response officials.
