On Saturday, May 31, Tom Haines scored a century to help the England Lions make a strong comeback against India A. At the end of Day 2, the Lions had scored 237 runs for the loss of 2 wickets. India A had posted a big total of 557 runs, thanks mainly to Karun Nair’s impressive 204 runs.

Karun Nair played very well and showed why he deserves a chance to play for the Indian Test team. He got good help from Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan, who scored 94 and 92 runs respectively. After Sarfaraz and Jurel got out, India A tried to score runs quickly. When Karun got out, the lower-order batsmen, including Harsh Dubey, Shardul Thakur, and Anhsul Kamboj, made some useful runs to take the total past 550.

For the England Lions, Josh Hull and Zaman Akhter took three wickets each. Eddie Jack also took two wickets.

India A started well with the ball by getting Ben McKinney out early, but after that, it became difficult for them to take wickets. Tom Haines and Emilio Gay batted well together and added 100 runs for the third wicket. India A’s fielding was not very good, as they dropped several catches, which helped Haines.

At one point, when Haines had only scored 11 runs, he hit the ball and it went to second slip where Sarfaraz was standing, but Sarfaraz could not catch the ball. Later, when Haines had scored 83 runs, he hit a hard shot off Harshit Rana, and the India A captain, Abhimanyu Easwaran, tried to catch it, but the ball slipped through his hands.

Haines took advantage of these chances and completed his 15th first-class hundred and his third hundred this summer. The England Lions kept scoring at a good pace, finishing the day with a run rate of 4.55. The pitch became easier to bat on as the day went on.

The game will continue on Sunday, June 1, with Haines and Max Holden batting on scores of 103 and 64 runs respectively.
