Thailand and Peru Advance Towards Free Trade Agreement

Post by : Shakul

Thailand and Peru are progressing toward finalizing a Free Trade Agreement after recent discussions between Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Peruvian Ambassador Cecilia Zunilda Galarreta Bazán in Bangkok.

This meeting occurred during the ambassador's farewell visit, marking the end of her diplomatic mission in Thailand. Both nations emphasized their long-standing friendship and collaboration built over the past 60 years.

Officials reported positive advancements in the negotiations for the Thailand-Peru Free Trade Agreement, expressing optimism that the deal could be formally signed within this year. Leaders from both countries believe this agreement will amplify trade and investment avenues significantly.

Discussions also centered around food security and agricultural collaboration. The two nations recognized their agricultural strengths and concurred that there are substantial opportunities to increase food trade and cooperation in the future.

Prime Minister Anutin declared that Thailand is prepared to bolster its role as a food supplier for Peru and other markets in South America. Authorities see enhanced agricultural relations as a means to foster enduring economic cooperation between their regions.

The ambassador also touched upon the Chancay Port project, which aims to enhance logistics and supply chain connectivity between South America and ASEAN nations. Thailand is poised to serve as a critical trade gateway in the ASEAN region.

Both parties concurred that the enhancement of logistics infrastructure and stronger trade ties would yield benefits for businesses and contribute to economic growth in both areas. The talks illustrated a growing interest in fostering deeper cooperation between ASEAN and Latin American economies.

At the meeting's conclusion, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the ambassador for her role in strengthening bilateral relations and wished her success in her future diplomatic endeavors, reaffirming Thailand's strong ties with Peru.
