In a groundbreaking move, Thailand has introduced its inaugural Thai-language e-learning platform dedicated to investigative interviewing, a crucial advancement for enhancing the nation's justice system. This initiative is designed to equip legal professionals and investigators with globally recognized training methodologies, all while emphasizing human rights adherence in investigative practices.
The unveiling ceremony was graced by high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Justice, representatives from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights, and various other key institutions, including the Office of the Attorney General and the Thailand Institute of Justice. This program showcases Thailand's commitment to modernizing investigative processes and elevating the caliber of criminal investigations.
Police Colonel Itthikorn Chiratnanon represented the Minister of Justice at the event, which brought together experts from diverse sectors, including prosecutors’ offices, investigative agencies, and human resources, all pivotal to the justice system's functioning.
Developed through collaboration between the Thailand Institute of Justice, UNODC, the Legal Studies Institute from the Attorney General's Office, and the University of Oslo, this platform incorporates internationally recognized techniques for investigative interviewing, which have now been translated into Thai, thus facilitating greater access for local practitioners to advanced training.
Officials underscored the importance of effective interviewing methods in ensuring justice, as they enhance evidence collection, diminish the likelihood of wrongful charges, and uphold the integrity of investigations, respecting the rights of all individuals involved.
The online format promises increased accessibility to professional development resources nationwide, enabling investigators throughout Thailand to engage with high-quality educational opportunities regardless of their geographical location. This aims to promote uniform standards and best practices in the law enforcement and justice sectors.
Authorities assert that this initiative will foster sustainable improvements in investigative quality, transparency, and accountability. By merging international expertise with local needs, Thailand aims to bolster public confidence in its justice system, ensuring that investigative protocols align with global norms and uphold human rights.
