During the “China Tourism Day, May 19” event at the China Cultural Center in Bangkok, Thailand and China underscored their robust diplomatic and cultural ties. This occasion also marked the launch of the fourth “I Want to Go to China” Creative Short Video Contest, uniting tourism officials, diplomats, and industry leaders from both nations.
Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports, Mr. Surasak Panjaroenvorakul, spoke at the event, emphasizing how vital tourism is in fostering relations between Thailand and China. In attendance were Chinese Ambassador Zhang Jianwei, officials from the Tourism Authority of Thailand, and notable leaders from the tourism sector.
Surasak characterized the gathering as a testament to the enduring friendship shared by the two nations. He echoed the sentiment that Thailand and China are “brothers, not strangers,” highlighting how tourism and culture create meaningful connections between the two countries.
Enhancing Tourism Cooperation and Economic Growth
The minister noted that 2026 will be a milestone, as it marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, calling it “50 Golden Years of Friendship.” He elaborated on the extensive collaboration in tourism, trade, and regional growth that has developed over the years.
Efforts have been made to streamline visa processes, increase international flight options, and enhance tourist safety. Officials also discussed how the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership agreement aids in the collaboration of tourism and the digital economy across borders.
Surasak expressed gratitude to the China National Tourism Administration in Bangkok for its continuous efforts in promoting Chinese culture and tourism to the Thai public. He noted that these initiatives inspire more Thai tourists to explore China and foster mutual understanding.
Welcoming Chinese Tourists to Thailand
The Thai government reiterated its commitment to welcoming Chinese visitors through the “Amazing Thailand” campaign. Officials pointed out that Thailand remains a favored destination for Chinese travelers, known for its stunning natural landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and modern tourism amenities.
Surasak assured that the Ministry of Tourism and Sports will maintain close collaboration with Chinese counterparts to further tourism, bolster regional economic recovery, and enrich cultural exchanges. He concluded that enhanced tourism efforts will significantly bolster economic growth and friendship between the peoples of Thailand and China.
