Thai Government Celebrates Asian Beach Games Achievements

Post by : Shakul

The government of Thailand has proudly presented over 33 million baht to its athletes, coaches, and sports associations in recognition of their outstanding success at the 6th Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China. This commendation ceremony was held on May 6, 2026, at The Grand Fourwings Convention Hotel in Bangkok, presided over by Mr. Surasak Panjaroenvorakul, the Minister of Tourism and Sports. The event aimed to honor the athletes' remarkable achievements while promoting the advancement of sports in Thailand on an international scale.

The Asian Beach Games, which took place from April 22 to April 30, 2026, saw Thailand's athletes shine brightly, securing second place overall in the competition. They brought home a total of 28 medals, comprising 10 golds, 9 silvers, and 9 bronzes. This remarkable outcome is viewed as a significant achievement for the nation’s sports programs and highlights the growing prowess of Thai athletes on a global platform.

With support from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Sports Authority of Thailand, and the National Sports Development Fund, a prize pool amounting to 33,982,500 baht has been allocated to reward both the successful athletes and their supportive teams. This funding not only recognizes dedication and hard work but also serves as an investment in the future of Thai sports.

From the awarded total, athletes received 23.7 million baht directly for their medal-winning efforts. Coaches benefited from over 3.17 million baht for their essential guidance and training services, while sports associations received more than 7.11 million baht intended to foster more extensive training programs and sports-related activities. Officials confirmed that this funding is vital for both appreciation and long-term advancement of athletics in Thailand.

Minister Surasak expressed gratitude to all who played a role in supporting Thai athletes, including governmental bodies, private entities, and sports associations. He reiterated that the country’s sporting accomplishments stem from robust collaboration and ongoing development across various sectors. Furthermore, he reassured that the government is dedicated to establishing a modern and sustainable sports framework.

The Minister elaborated on the “Thailand Sport Plus” initiative, which prioritizes four key aspects of sports enhancement. The first, 'Sport Health,' encourages national participation in sports for healthier living. The second, 'Sport Wealth,' aims to boost the economy via sports sectors and tourism. The third, 'Sport Pride,' aspires to raise the standards of Thai sports events and athletes globally, while the fourth pillar, 'Sport Future,' focuses on utilizing technology in sports management and athlete advancement.

Additionally, Minister Surasak emphasized the critical importance of transparent financial management in the sports domain. The National Sports Development Fund employs a zero-based budgeting strategy for optimizing fiscal allocations to ensure measurable benefits for athletes and sports organizations. New performance metrics are being developed for improved planning and efficiency in athletic administration.

Officials assert that the successes displayed at the Asian Beach Games reveal Thailand's potential to rival other leading sports nations within Asia. As these achievements foster national pride, they serve as motivation for aspiring young athletes throughout the country. Continuous investments in athlete training programs, facilities, and opportunities for international competition are anticipated as crucial for maintaining Thailand's commendable performance in future sports events.

In his closing remarks, Minister Surasak conveyed that the accomplishments of the Thai athletes have brought immense pride to the entire nation. He stated that the 33 million baht allocated should not merely be seen as a reward for medals, but as a pivotal move towards a sustainable future for Thai sports. The commitment to invest in athletes, technological innovations, and sports infrastructure positions Thailand for even greater international success in the years ahead.
