Bollywood actor Sunny Deol made an emotional return to the public eye on Tuesday as he attended the teaser launch of his upcoming film Border 2. This marked his first public appearance since the death of his father, legendary actor Dharmendra, who passed away on November 24. The moment was deeply moving, as Sunny struggled to hold back tears while addressing the audience.
The teaser launch was held in Mumbai on Vijay Diwas, a day that honours the bravery of Indian soldiers. The event was grand and patriotic in spirit, fitting the theme of Border 2, which is based on the 1971 Indo-Pak war. The film’s cast, including Varun Dhawan and Ahan Shetty, were present at the event to support the launch.
During the event, Sunny Deol delivered one of the powerful dialogues from the film: “Awaaz kahan tak jaani chahiye?” As the crowd responded loudly with “Lahore tak,” Sunny repeated the line with strong emotion. At that moment, his voice trembled and his eyes filled with tears, clearly reflecting his personal grief. The audience responded with loud applause and respect, understanding the weight of the moment.
Sunny’s appearance was significant because he had stayed away from public events after losing his father. Dharmendra had been admitted to hospital earlier in November due to health problems and was later brought home. During that time, false rumours about his death had spread, which were denied by family members. Sadly, Dharmendra passed away on November 24 and was cremated at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Mumbai. Many well-known film personalities attended the funeral to pay their respects.
A few days ago, Sunny shared a heartfelt video of his father enjoying mountain views on his 90th birthday. Along with the video, he wrote an emotional message saying his father would always live within him. The post touched many fans and showed the close bond they shared.
Border 2 is directed by Anurag Singh and is produced by Bhushan Kumar, J.P. Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta. The film is presented by T-Series along with JP Films. Apart from Sunny Deol, the film stars Diljit Dosanjh, Varun Dhawan, and Ahan Shetty in key roles. Actresses Sonam Bajwa, Mona Singh, and Medha Rana, along with several others, are also part of the cast.
The film is a sequel to the 1997 hit Border, which is remembered as one of India’s most iconic war films. Border 2 is scheduled to release in cinemas on January 23, 2026, just ahead of Republic Day.
Sunny Deol’s emotional presence at the teaser launch reminded everyone that behind the strong screen image is a son grieving a deep personal loss. His strength in returning to work while honouring his father’s memory was widely appreciated by fans and the film industry alike.
