On April 15, 2026, a prominent delegation from China visited Turkmenistan, marking a significant step in healthcare cooperation, particularly in the areas of pediatric care and traditional medicine.
The team, spearheaded by Tan Zhishu from Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, toured the headquarters of the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow Charitable Foundation for Supporting Children in Need of Care, located in the contemporary urban landscape of Arkadag City, dedicated to health and social welfare.
During their discussions, Oguljakhan Atabaeva, Vice-President for Medical Affairs at the Foundation, engaged with the delegation regarding enhancing bilateral healthcare cooperation, focusing on child health and rehabilitation.
Both parties spotlighted the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding to create a Turkmen-Chinese Center for Traditional Chinese Medicine, a project poised to strengthen cooperation among the two nations' medical institutions.
The dialogue also explored potential collaborations in complex medical treatments, rehabilitation services, and the synergy of traditional and contemporary medical practices aimed at improving healthcare outcomes.
Atabaeva underscored Turkmenistan's commitment to safeguarding children’s health and enhancing their living conditions through cutting-edge medical care and comprehensive support systems. She stressed the foundation’s crucial role since its establishment in 2021, providing essential medical services and complicated surgeries for children.
The Chinese representatives conveyed their enthusiasm for furthering collaboration and recognized Turkmenistan as a steadfast partner in healthcare advancement. They also acknowledged the global proliferation of traditional medicine practices and welcomed Turkmenistan’s involvement in this initiative.
The delegation also explored the facilities at the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow Children’s Health and Rehabilitation Center, witnessing advanced treatment operations and integrated healthcare services aimed at fostering children's recovery and development.
Their visit included an excursion to the State Equestrian Circus, where hippotherapy exemplifies natural rehabilitation methods, offering innovative strategies for enhancing children's physical and emotional health.
Both parties expressed optimism that these discussions would fortify humanitarian bonds and pave the way for enduring partnerships across healthcare, education, and research sectors.
