In the first six months of 2025, South Korea saw a significant increase in its exports of services related to the information and communication technology (ICT) sector. According to official data, the country’s ICT service exports grew by 19 percent compared to the same period last year. This growth was largely driven by the rising global popularity of game content, which has become one of the country’s most competitive service exports.
During January to June 2025, South Korea earned a total of $6.37 billion from ICT services. In comparison, during the first half of 2024, the country had earned $5.81 billion. This shows a clear upward trend in the demand for South Korea’s digital services, especially gaming, software solutions, and IT consulting services.
On the other hand, South Korea also increased its imports of ICT services, which reached $4.8 billion, a rise of 12.3 percent from the previous year. Despite the increase in imports, the country maintained a healthy trade surplus of $1.57 billion in ICT services. A trade surplus means that the country is selling more than it is buying, which is a positive indicator for its economy.
Experts say that this growth reflects South Korea’s strong position in the global digital economy. South Korean game developers, software companies, and IT service providers are becoming increasingly influential worldwide. The country’s ability to export high-quality digital content, especially games, shows that its ICT sector is competitive and innovative.
The growth in ICT service exports also highlights a shift in the global market, where countries increasingly rely on digital solutions and online services rather than traditional goods. South Korea’s success in this field demonstrates how a focus on technology and creativity can drive economic growth and strengthen international trade relationships.
This increase in exports not only benefits the economy but also helps create jobs in the technology sector, encourages innovation, and improves the country’s global reputation as a leader in digital services. With gaming content being a major contributor, the country continues to attract attention from consumers and businesses worldwide, boosting its position in the competitive ICT market.
For businesses and investors looking for opportunities, South Korea’s ICT service sector offers promising growth potential. The rise in exports indicates strong international demand and shows that the country is on a path to further digital and economic development.
Overall, South Korea’s ICT service export boom in the first half of 2025 demonstrates the power of technology-driven trade. As gaming, software, and IT services continue to expand globally, South Korea is expected to maintain its role as a leading exporter of digital services.
