Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in Al Ain Region, welcomed a delegation from Khalifa University of Science and Technology, headed by Professor Ebrahim Al Hajri, to discuss the institution’s recent scientific research and innovative technologies.
During the session, His Highness received insights into various research projects and innovation strategies pursued by the university’s three colleges and 14 specialized research centers. Updates were provided by the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences, College of Computing and Mathematical Sciences, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, the Cybersecurity Academy, and the Khalifa University Center for Experiential Learning and Clinical Simulation.
The delegation also emphasized the latest achievements in satellite-based remote sensing, artificial intelligence, and advanced machine learning systems developed within the Environmental and Geophysical Sciences (ENGEOS) Laboratory.
Researchers illustrated how these advanced systems efficiently detect and analyze subsurface features with precise accuracy, eliminating the necessity for direct ground surveys. They are capable of uncovering buried archaeological sites, concealed groundwater reserves, and geological structures.
Officials noted that these research methodologies have already been effectively implemented in the UAE, including UNESCO World Heritage archaeological sites in Al Ain.
Additionally, the ENGEOS laboratory presented its extensive ground-penetrating radar network, featuring 20 specialized instruments positioned throughout Khalifa University campuses, facilitating scientific analysis for various environmental and geological investigations.
The university representatives conveyed that the technology is poised for broader applications throughout the Middle East and North Africa, with potential uses in weather risk forecasting, flood probability evaluation, and emergency preparedness strategies.
The delegation expressed their gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his gracious reception and acknowledged the continuous support from UAE leadership for scientific inquiry, innovation, and higher education.
Khalifa University reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing research capabilities and broadening national and international collaborations to align with the UAE’s aspirations of being a frontrunner in advanced sciences, technology, and a knowledge-rich economy.
Present at the meeting were Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Professor Bayan Sharif, Provost of Khalifa University, Samar Al Mansoori, Senior Vice-President for Support Services, along with various faculty and administrative officials.
