Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with a delegation from Khalifa University to discuss recent accomplishments in scientific research and technological advancements. The team was led by Ebrahim Al Hajri, featuring senior academics and administration officials.
During their discussion, Sheikh Hazza received insights into various ongoing research initiatives from the university's three colleges and fourteen specialized research centers. Updates on key advancements were provided in fields such as engineering, medical sciences, cybersecurity, and cutting-edge technologies, underlining the vital role of scientific research in realizing the UAE’s vision for an innovation-driven economy.
The delegation showcased developments in satellite-based remote sensing systems and artificial intelligence technologies, particularly those from the Environmental and Geophysical Sciences Laboratory. Researchers detailed how such sophisticated systems can identify underground structures and geological formations without direct surveys, a technology already deployed in various historical sites in the Al Ain area.
According to the university's officials, AI and machine learning technologies enhance data analysis and precision in environmental studies. The research team illustrated how AI systems can interpret complex satellite and radar data to support climate investigations and emergency planning. They noted that these innovations could have broader applications throughout the Middle East and North Africa.
The delegation also emphasized Khalifa University’s advanced ground-penetrating radar network, consisting of 20 specialized instruments across its campuses that aid in field research by corroborating findings from remote sensing technologies. They explained the technology’s potential to assist in flood prediction and disaster management, thereby improving public safety and infrastructure.
