Post by : Bianca Suleiman

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah as well as President of Al Dhaid University, presided over a recent Board of Trustees meeting. He acknowledged the institution's ongoing evolution in academic, agricultural, and veterinary disciplines.

Emphasizing remarkable achievements through cutting-edge academic offerings and quality research, His Highness underlined significant advancements in agriculture and veterinary sciences, cementing the university’s vital role in innovating educational practices.

The Ruler noted that Sharjah's universities have thrived by leveraging partnerships with internationally respected institutions rather than initiating everything independently. These collaborations have led to the enhancement of educational standards and substantial growth in research opportunities for students.

He underscored the necessity for ongoing improvement in educational and scientific initiatives to optimize results, asserting that Sharjah's universities have earned a solid reputation in the region for their high-caliber research and their impact on preparing skilled talents for critical sectors.

During the meeting, the Board of Trustees explored various subjects related to the university's educational and administrative enhancement strategies and deliberated on solutions to bolster institutional effectiveness and facilitate future development.

Significant milestones achieved recently were assessed, including enhancements in educational facilities and applied infrastructure for various academic programs. Notable projects encompassed a mobile veterinary clinic and a smart farm, along with upgrades to facilities aimed at enriching practical training and research.

Officials also discussed collaborations with prominent global universities to establish dual-specialization programs. Additionally, Al Dhaid University is preparing to host summer training initiatives, with one slated for students from the Royal Agricultural University in the UK, set to commence in summer 2026.

Dr. Aisha Ahmed Bushlaibi, Chancellor of Al Dhaid University, provided a report detailing the institution's recent accomplishments, emphasizing the accreditation of their Skills Development Center by a UK-recognized body, alongside its research achievements this academic year.

The Board further reviewed reports from the Finance, Academic, Internal Audit, Compliance, and Financial Resources Development Committees covering advancements in education, research, and administration.

As a part of the meeting, His Highness visited a student exhibition that displayed research focused on sustainability, food security, and veterinary health. The showcased innovations included modern technological applications and AI integration in agriculture and animal welfare.

Students highlighted projects targeting soil quality enhancement, water conservation, and natural methods for post-harvest crop damage mitigation. Systems blending fish farming and vertical farming efforts were also shown to contribute to the UAE's food security objectives.

His Highness examined initiatives in veterinary medicine and public health, promoting awareness about the correct usage of antibiotics and their implications for health. He observed advanced teaching materials employed for student instruction, including lab simulations and 3D modeling technologies.

Additionally, the Ruler assessed the mobile veterinary clinic initiative, designed to enhance students' hands-on skills and clinical experience while emphasizing ethical animal care and community engagement.

The meeting further encompassed discussions about the university's current and prospective expansion projects, which feature a cutting-edge 1,000-seat theater along with modern classrooms and multipurpose halls.

Plans were also outlined for a mosque that will accommodate 1,400 men and 450 women, complete with support facilities.

Furthermore, the university is advancing its agricultural laboratory initiative, which will include four distinct agricultural labs, a seed laboratory, and two greenhouses to foster research and practical training in sustainable farming and food security. Additional student amenities, such as 640 shaded parking spaces, are in development.

During his visit, His Highness toured the EKTIFA exhibition featuring organic products and upcoming food items intended for the UAE marketplace.

Exhibits included Mleiha dried milk, mozzarella cheese, organic grains, and premium chocolate, among others. EKTIFA also revealed plans to launch a high-protein milk designed for athletes, alongside a new honey product dubbed ‘Zahrat Al-Samar.’ In the next three years, the foundation aims to introduce nearly 140 organic food items to bolster food self-sufficiency and sustainable growth in the UAE.
