Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag recently talked about his love for South Indian films during an event in Hyderabad. He attended the launch of the Tollywood Pro League (TPL), a cricket and entertainment initiative for the Telugu film industry.
At the event, Sehwag shared his admiration for actors Mahesh Babu, Allu Arjun, and Prabhas. “My favourite Telugu hero is Mahesh Babu. I also like Allu Arjun, Prabhas…I watched Baahubali a couple of times. Now I’m happily retired, na? So, I have nothing to do,” he joked.
Although he enjoys South Indian cinema, Sehwag watches the films in Hindi because he does not understand Tamil or Telugu. He even recalled a famous dialogue from Pushpa, “saala jhukega nahi” (I won’t back down), and recreated it in Telugu with the help of the host Nikhil.
The launch of TPL was organized by producer Dil Raju and attended by cricketers Kapil Dev and Suresh Raina.
Sehwag’s comments show his admiration for some of the biggest stars in Telugu cinema. Mahesh Babu recently starred in Guntur Kaaram (2024) and is shooting for SS Rajamouli’s upcoming film Varanasi, featuring Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Allu Arjun gained recognition with Pushpa: The Rise (2021) and Pushpa 2: The Rule (2024), the latter being one of the highest-grossing Telugu films. He is now shooting for a new project directed by Atlee with Deepika Padukone. Prabhas, known for Kalki 2898 AD (2024), which collected over ₹1,042 crore worldwide, is preparing for multiple upcoming films, including The Raja Saab, Spirit, and Fauzi.
Sehwag’s love for films reflects a lighter and entertaining side of the cricketer, showing that even after leaving professional cricket, he enjoys life through cinema.
