On Wednesday night, the Seattle Kraken broke a challenging six-game losing streak, claiming a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings in overtime. The decisive moment came just 1:21 into the extra period when Vince Dunn scored on a power play, resulting in a crucial home win. Contributions also came from Jared McCann and Matty Beniers, while goalie Joey Daccord was pivotal with 24 saves. The Kings’ offense featured goals from Alex Laferriere and Kevin Fiala, yet Anton Forsberg's 30 saves fell short in the final stretch.
The game's momentum shifted late in regulation when Matty Beniers netted a goal with only 24.8 seconds remaining. This late-game surge was facilitated by a power play following a tripping penalty on Forsberg that left McCann injured. Eeli Tolvanen's precise pass allowed Beniers to redirect the puck into the net, leveling the score and revitalizing Seattle’s spirits.
In overtime, another power play opportunity arose when Adrian Kempe was penalized for tripping. The Kraken capitalized quickly, with Tolvanen assisting Dunn, whose slap shot from the right faceoff circle sealed their victory. This goal marked a significant turnaround for Seattle, lifting them out of their slump.
The Kings initially took the lead 2-1 in the third period, thanks to Kevin Fiala's team-leading 11th goal, made possible by a crisp pass from Anze Kopitar, allowing Fiala to execute a breakaway. Seattle, however, fought hard to reclaim the match in the closing moments.
Seattle's first goal emerged via a power play opportunity early in the second period. Quinton Byfield's broken stick led to extra space for the Kraken, enabling Dunn to set up McCann for a brilliant one-timer. Shortly thereafter, a misstep allowed Alex Laferriere to score short-handed, leveling the game at 1-1.
Compounding their challenges, Seattle placed rookie forward Berkly Catton on injured reserve earlier that day due to a right hand injury sustained in a previous match against Detroit. With this win, the Kraken aim to regain their momentum while adjusting to the absence of their young talent.
A fan query arose regarding Jack Eichel's status among top players, particularly alongside Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon. While Eichel is undeniably elite, analysts generally regard McDavid and MacKinnon as the premier talents in the league.
This thrilling matchup not only provided an essential boost in confidence for Seattle, but it showcased their strong teamwork during crucial power plays and highlighted standout performances from Vince Dunn, Matty Beniers, and Jared McCann.
