Saudi Heritage on Display at Milan's Artisan Fair

Post by : Mara Rahim

The Saudi national pavilion concluded its display at Milan’s Artisan Fair, a premier event dedicated to handicrafts and traditional artistry. This pavilion highlighted Saudi Arabia’s rich heritage and cultural offerings to an international audience.

Organized by the Ministry of Culture, the pavilion united various Saudi cultural and tourism entities, positioning the Kingdom as a significant cultural and tourist hub.

Numerous Saudi organizations participated, including the Heritage Commission, the Theater and Performing Arts Commission, the Culinary Arts Commission, the Royal Institute for Traditional Arts (Wrth), the Royal Commission for AlUla, Saudi Tourism Authority, and the Saudi Artisanal Company.

Over 140 Saudis engaged in the event, comprising artisans, chefs, and traditional music and dance performances. They showcased traditional crafts such as bisht tailoring, agal weaving, Sadu weaving, incense burners, and rosaries.

Students from Wrth also participated; twenty trainees exhibited their work in Al-Qatt Al-Asiri, along with pottery, embroidery, and woodcraft, demonstrating how Saudi youth are embracing and preserving their traditions.

The Saudi Artisanal Company highlighted finely crafted handmade products to display the excellence of Saudi craftsmanship. Visitors were welcomed with traditional coffee and received guided tours of the exhibits.

Attendees enjoyed an array of traditional Saudi dishes, including dates, coffee, and specialty meals, while Saudi chefs showcased live cooking demonstrations. Two performance arts groups also entertained the crowds.

Saudi Arabia’s presence at the Artisan Fair facilitates cultural exchange, showcasing its crafts, culinary heritage, and arts, thereby enhancing its cultural footprint on the global stage.
