Vietnam's General Secretary and President To Lam, alongside his wife Ngo Phuong Ly, had an important meeting with King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida at the Royal Palace in Bangkok during his official visit to Thailand. This gathering signifies a major milestone in the evolving relationship between Vietnam and Thailand, both celebrating 50 years of diplomatic ties.

Welcoming the Vietnamese leader, King Vajiralongkorn emphasized the importance of this visit, particularly in light of the recent upgrade of bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He expressed optimism that this renewed partnership would foster enhanced cooperation and support regional peace and stability.

The King congratulated Vietnam on its impressive socio-economic progress and shared reflections on his prior visits to the country, conveying warmth towards its historical and cultural heritage.

In response, President To Lam expressed gratitude for the kind hospitality offered by the Thai monarch and passed on greetings from Vietnam’s leadership. He applauded Thailand's economic advancements and voiced confidence that the nation would continue to play a pivotal role within ASEAN and globally.

The Vietnamese leader pointed out that Thailand is Vietnam's foremost trading partner in ASEAN and a key foreign investor. He highlighted fruitful discussions with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul that led to an action plan aimed at actualizing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership from 2026 to 2031, encompassing collaborations in areas like defense, trade, technology, and cultural exchanges.

President To Lam also acknowledged the Thai Royal Family’s contributions to educational and community development initiatives in Vietnam. He expressed gratitude for the support given to the Vietnamese community in Thailand and advocated for the preservation of Vietnamese cultural sites within the kingdom, including memorials dedicated to President Ho Chi Minh.

The meeting ended positively, with President To Lam extending a formal invitation to King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida to visit Vietnam soon. The Thai monarch graciously accepted, indicating a robust friendship and furthering collaborative endeavors between these ASEAN neighbors.
