Rashmika's The Girlfriend Has a Slow Start with ₹1.3 Crore

Rashmika's The Girlfriend Has a Slow Start with ₹1.3 Crore

Post by : Mina Rahman

Continuing her busy 2025 calendar, Rashmika Mandanna stars in The Girlfriend, following her appearances in Chhaava, Sikandar, and Thamma. Directed and written by Rahul Ravindran, this romantic drama debuted in theatres on Friday but had a subdued opening at the box office.

Early estimates by Sacnilk indicate that The Girlfriend garnered ₹1.3 crore on its first day, representing Rashmika's lowest opening weekend figure for the year. For context, her previous film Thamma had an impressive Diwali launch, raking in ₹24 crore. The current release encountered challenges, including a non-holiday Friday and limited promotional efforts, which means its box office success heavily hinges on audience word of mouth.

The cast also includes Dheekshith Shetty, Anu Emmanuel, Rao Ramesh, and Rohini. The plot revolves around a seemingly magical romance that turns toxic, primarily due to the aggressive behavior of Shetty's character.

Expressing her emotional tie to the film, Rashmika shared on X, “When Rahul first narrated the script, I teared up. There were moments that touched my heart deeply… Bhooma is the most special to me because that’s mostly me.”

As positive feedback begins to surface, the trajectory at the box office over the weekend will be crucial in determining if The Girlfriend can gain traction in cinemas.
